Tournament
The tournament will take place on Saturday 10th March 2012.
The British University Team Championships promises to be a spectacular event. The team round is possibly the most exciting of the archery disciplines. The BUTC is a one-day event and as closely as possible resembles the FITA team round event. It is a knockout event with each university being represented by up to two teams.
Each team consists of three people, these may be male and/or female, however they must be Recurve (Olympic) style. The Teams MUST be nominated before the qualification event starts. It is anticipated that the best three archers will form the A team and the next 3 best archers will form the B team for each university, however this is completely up to the university.
The tournament will consist of two sections, a qualification and an elimination. The qualification round will determine each teams overall ranking and will determine the initial team lineup for the next phase. The Elimination round will involve the teams competing against each other in head to head ‘matches’ for a place in the following rounds, initially this will be done consecutively, however once the semi-final stage is reached the matches will be played separately. Teams are invited to bring entrance music for this stage of the event.
Due to this being a one-day event it has been decided that the qualification event will be shot over a Bray I. This is 30 arrows at a 40cm target, at 18m. It is in effect ‘half’ a FITA I. This will be run as laid out in FITA rules (available here) with the exception of clothes restrictions. Clubs are greatly encouraged to wear matching club strip/colours.
The eliminations will be run according to FITA guidelines for the Team round. Each head to head match will be decided over FOUR ends. Each end will consist of each member of the team shooting two arrows (six total). Only one member of the team may be on the line at one time. There will be a 1 meter line behind the shooting line and all team members must be behind this while not shooting. When an archer leaves the line the next archer must wait until the leaving archer is over this 1 meter line before they approach the shooting line. In addition, no arrow may be fully out of an archers quiver while crossing the 1 meter line. Members of the team who are not shooting are fully allowed to communicate with the archer on the line and themselves.
There will be a time limit of TWO minutes for the team to shoot all SIX arrows. All archers must start behind the 1 meter line until the timing period starts, a 10 second warning will be indicated before the timing period starts, which will be indicated by a whistle. In case of a tied score at the end of a match, each team will be given 1 minute to shoot 3 arrows (one each).
If a team infringes these rules the official controlling the match will hold up a yellow card. This indicates that the current archer on the line must cross behind the 1 meter line before returning back to the shooting line, remembering that any arrow must be replaced into the quiver before doing so.
In the first two rounds, there will be one official controlling each match. From the 3rd round onwards there will be one official controlling each team. These officials will have the power to penalize teams in the manner described above. In addition, there will be a scorer assigned to each match that will ease pressure on the teams and will ensure that the delays between matches are minimized.
