Yes you read that correctly! This academic year UWAC are trailing running a second, smaller, beginner’s course that will run across four of the Wednesdays in term 2. If you’re interested in taking part I’m sure you’ll have a few questions and I hope this post will answer a few.
Both our taster sessions and beginners course has a few requirements about clothing. PLEASE read these as you won’t be allowed to shoot if you are improperly dressed. The requirements are:
- To wear closed-toe footwear that are comfortable and easy to walk/balance in,
- To tie long hair back,
- Wear comfortable, close fitting clothing that allows free movement of the arms,
- Remove jewellery or piercings on the face and torso.
Course session times
To attend the beginners course you must sign up on the Warwick Active Course page. Sessions will be 2 hours each week on Wednesdays from 14:00-16:00.
The beginners course will last 4 weeks (Weeks 3-6) where you will be assigned a coach. This coach will teach you the basics of archery and get you shooting proficiently by yourself.
After week 6 you will be welcome to attend both Wednesday and Sunday sessions where you can shoot by yourself without the aid of a coach. However, plenty of help will still be available.
The beginner’s course is run through Warwick Active and the following prices apply:
- Warwick Sport (Silver or above) member - £20,
- Warwick Sport Bronze or non-member - £40.
How do I sign up?
You can sign up to the course on the Warwick Active page.
What happens after the course?
Once the course has been completed, you will be able to shoot by yourself at any session open to novices. More sessions will be opened to novices as the year progresses. This will require you to be a Warwick Sport Silver (or above) member as well as a member of the archery club.
